Materials

Decking materials we install

Composite Decking

Composite boards feature a core blend of recycled wood fibers and plastics wrapped in a durable protective shell.

Trex Decking

The most widely recognized brand globally, known for eco friendly 95 percent recycled material composition and highly scratch resistant options like the Trex Transcend Lineage collection.

PVC Decking

PVC boards are 100 percent synthetic, containing zero organic wood fibers, making them impervious to rot, moisture damage and heavy staining.

TimberTech AZEK

The industry standard for premium cellular PVC decking, staying noticeably cooler under direct sun than traditional composites and carrying extensive structural and fade warranties.

A Real Cercone Deck

Start to finish

One of our recent decks, photographed from the first board pulled to the finished space. We re-sided this home first, which is why the walls change from green to grey and black.

Our Process

How custom design works

  1. Step 1

In Home Consultation and Site Analysis

    • Elevation and grading measurement to determine if a low profile, multi level or elevated structure is required
    • Layout mapping around existing architecture, door placements and sunlight exposure
    • A needs assessment discussing zones for an outdoor kitchen, dining area, lounge chairs or hot tub
  2. Step 2

    Material and Style Selection

    • The decking surface choice between Trex composite, TimberTech AZEK PVC or traditional pressure treated wood
    • A color palette complementing existing siding and trim
    • Railing and accent customization including cocktail rails
  3. Step 3

    3D Digital Design and Planning

    • A 3D digital mockup so the homeowner can see exactly how the deck attaches to the house and how colors look together
    • Easy revisions adjusted dynamically before ordering materials
  4. Step 4

    Code Compliance and Engineering

    • Structural engineering of footer depths, beam sizes and joist spans built for Pennsylvania winters
    • Full management of the local permitting process across Allegheny County

The Cercone Difference

What makes a Cercone deck different

Mastermind On Site Leadership

Direct accountability where Dennis and Melissa personally supervise projects alongside the project manager and zero subcontractor risk.

Built for Pennsylvania Climates

Advanced material integration with premium weather resistant composites and cellular PVC, and structural engineering that withstands shifting soil, heavy snow loads and freeze and thaw cycles without sagging, warping or lifting.

Absolute Code and Permitting Compliance

Every permit pulled and construction that deliberately exceeds safety codes.

Fully Documented Integrity

HIC registration and BBB accreditation plus transparent project scoping with no hidden upcharges.

Honest Pricing

No hidden fees. No structural shortcuts. Just clear upfront pricing and exceptional craftsmanship from a family owned crew that respects your property. We have a wood clause in our agreement, because we cannot see if your frame is rotted until the demo is completely torn down. Should you have rotted wood, we cannot install new decking on a rotted frame, and that cost would be a change addendum to your existing signed contract. Keep in mind added work will change the timeline.

Fabulous experience. I didn't realize how much goes into replacing a deck. I had no knowledge of where to start, and not even how I wanted it to truthfully look in the end. Cercone Exteriors did the design and worked every step to the full completion. I was caught off guard when we saw my frame was rotted after the demolition stage. It looked fine from the outside, but once it was broken down it was literally crumbling in our fingertips. My kids play on this deck through every season and I feel better knowing it's not just beautiful now but safe for my loved ones. I definitely recommend this company. Design to build was a breeze and I'm very satisfied.

Fun Fact

What is really holding your deck up

Wood vs composite

Composite

  • Fade and stain resistant
  • Moisture and mold resistant
  • Barefoot friendly with no splinters
  • Easy to clean
  • Insect resistant
  • TimberTech boards use up to 80 percent recycled content

Wood

  • Sun damage
  • Mold and mildew
  • Grease and food stains
  • Cracking and splitting
  • Insect damage over time

The parts you never see

A deck is more than boards. Concrete footings, posts, beams, a ledger bolted to the house, joists, rim joists and joist hangers carry every load. The railing, balusters and stair treads are what you see, but the frame underneath is what keeps your family safe, and it is where we never cut corners.
